This clock tower features mechanical figures dancing to the lively musical accompaniment of the traditional performing arts, Iwami Kagura. Every new hour, from 8am to 9pm, the figures will emerge and dance for 5 minutes.
“Donchicchi” is a word that came from local children’s terminology for the lively beat of the musical accompaniment. From there, Hamada’s locals gave the word to name the clock tower, using it to introduce Hamada’s charm to the many visitors that come.
Be sure to watch the animation if you happen to be in the right place, right time!
